October super moon

The Harvest Moon will also be a Supermoon this October, making it appear slightly larger and brighter than usual.

 * When: The full moon reaches peak illumination on Monday, October 6, 2025, at 11:47 p.m. Eastern Time (ET). It will appear full and bright on the nights immediately before and after the peak.

 * Significance: It is called the Harvest Moon because it is the full moon that occurs closest to the Autumnal Equinox (September 22/23), traditionally providing extended evening light for farmers to harvest crops. This is a rare occurrence for the Harvest Moon to fall in October, happening about 18 times between 1970 and 2050.

 * Supermoon: This October full moon is also the first of three consecutive Supermoons of 2025. A Supermoon occurs when a full moon is near its closest point to Earth in its orbit, making it appear up to 14% larger and 30% brighter than the year's faintest full moon.

 * Best Viewing: The best time to view it is generally shortly after sunset on October 6, when the Moon is rising in the east and low on the horizon, where it can appear most dramatic due to the "moon illusion."

 * Other Celestial Events: The event also coincides with the peak of the annual Draconid meteor shower, although the bright moonlight may make spotting the meteors difficult. You may also see Saturn shining near the moon on the evening of October 6th.
