The Afghan Taliban government confirmed that its forces attacked Pakistani troops along the border, calling it a "retaliatory" action.

Here are the key points regarding the border clashes and claims:

 * Taliban's Claim: The Taliban government's spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, claimed that Afghan forces killed 58 Pakistani soldiers and wounded around 30 others in the operations. They also claimed to have captured several Pakistani army posts. Mujahid stated the operations were in response to "repeated violations" of Afghan territory and airspace, including alleged Pakistani airstrikes on Kabul and a market in Paktika province earlier in the week.

 * Pakistan's Claim: The Pakistani military disputed the Taliban's casualty figures. They reported that 23 Pakistani soldiers were killed and 29 were injured. Pakistan claimed its forces killed over 200 Taliban and affiliated terrorists and destroyed multiple Taliban locations and training camps. Pakistan's Interior Minister called the Taliban attacks "unprovoked."

 * Context: The clashes underscore deeply strained relations between the two neighbors, with Pakistan repeatedly accusing the Afghan Taliban of harboring militants from the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), a group responsible for numerous attacks in Pakistan. The Afghan Taliban denies this charge.

 * De-escalation: The Taliban later stated that the operation was halted after diplomatic requests from countries like Qatar and Saudi Arabia.

 * Border Closure: Pakistan closed its main border crossings with Afghanistan following the overnight clashes.
